Clothing company manager tailors $20,000 lottery win

DECATUR, Ga. -- A clothing company manager has been draped with a lottery win.

Joel Rogers won $20,000 after taxes in the Georgia Lottery's weekly $3,000,000 Taxes Paid extra chance drawing.

Rogers' sister called him with the news that his name was announced during a televised drawing.

"I didn't know if she'd actually heard it or was pulling my leg," he said.

He finally believed her after seeing his name on the Georgia Lottery's website.

"I was pretty excited," he said.

A Decatur resident, the 42-year-old Rogers is the operations manager for an international apparel company. He hasn't yet decided how to spend his winnings.

As the holidays come near I figured it was time to let everyone know about the great layaway programs that will be going on this season. This is the time to start getting ready for the holidays and with these great programs you can get your holiday shopping done and be debt free. This is one of the things that I plan on doing to help with the cost of providing my daughter a Christmas.

Best Buy

Make a 25% down payment, plus a 5% nonrefundable layaway fee. Best Buy requires a minimum purchase of $250, but keep in mind that you can include several items to meet that total. Payments are made every two weeks until the balance is paid in full. Items that are ineligible for layaway include clearance, promotional, closeout and discontinued items.

Reading is SWEET! campaign ends Monday

Reading is SWEET! campaign ends Monday

ATLANTA -- October is both National Book Month and National Cookie Month, so why not combine the two into a sweet book drive?

The second annual Reading is SWEET! National Book Drive, sponsored by Great American Cookies, runs through Monday, Oct. 31.

Throughout the month, the stores collected new and gently used books to be donated to local charities and public libraries. Everyone who donated a book received a free cookie.

"Last year's Reading is SWEET! program was a huge success, thanks to the efforts of our store owners, customers and community partners," said Jenn Johnston, chief marketing & operations officer for GFG Management, which manages Great American Cookies. "We're excited to continue the event for 2011 and can't wait to see how many books we can collect and how many cookies we can give away."
