Lucas received the award for his work with the Shepherd Center, Atlanta's famed spinal cord and traumatic brain injury clinic. He volunteered at the hospital, welcoming new patients and their families. Lucas began his journey with the Shepherd Center as a two-time patient -- he received a brain injury in an attack and a spinal cord injury in a low-speed car accident.

His family asks that anyone who would like to honor Brian's memory make a donation in his name to the Shepherd Center.
