Courier killed in Toco Hills armored car robbery | News
DEKALB COUNTY, GA -- An armored car courier was shot to death during a robbery in front of a Kroger store in the Toco Hills Shopping Center just after noon Tuesday.
FBI investigators said the Garda Armored Car courier was walking back to his truck when a gunman walked up and shot him three times.
The gunman then grabbed an undisclosed amount of money, hopped in a car and fled the scene in a car that police said had been carjacked in Snellville on Monday.
The courier was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Downtown Atlanta, where he later died.
Investigators described the gunman as being a black male in his late 20s to early 30s; 5-foot-11 inches tall and with a medium complexion.
Garda is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for the robbery.
"We are deeply saddened by the death of our colleague in today's incident and extend our condolences to his family," representatives for Garda said in a statement released Tuesday afternoon. "We are cooperating with law enforcement in investigating the incident and therefore cannot provide any additional details."
Investigators said surveillance video relating to the incident would not be released because of its graphic nature. "There was no provocation, there was no mercy," said FBI Special Agent Stephen Emmett.
The FBI said it was the seventh time the same violent robbing crew has targeted armored car couriers. Their violence reached a point the FBI feared most. "They fire on these guards without any provocation, I think that is paramount," Emmett said. "That should also drive the publics sentiments in giving law enforcement needed information."

-On September 4, 2010 a Garda armored car courier was robbed at gunpoint at an ATM at the Bank of America at 1775 Howell Mill Road.
-On October 7, 2010 a Dunbar armored car courier was robbed inside the Mex-America Latino store at 641 South Marietta Parkway in Marietta.

That luck ended Tuesday at the Toco Hills Shopping Center when the courier was killed. Anyone with any information on Tuesday's robberies is asked to call the Atlanta FBI office at 404-679-9000.
