DEKALB | Ex-cop indicted for aiding drug dealers

ATLANTA -- A former DeKalb County police officer has been indicted after prosecutors say he tipped off drug dealers to a pending federal search warrant.

Prosecutors say 39-year-old Gabriel Hoskins III of Atlanta was arrested and arraigned Thursday.

Hoskins, who was most recently a Clarkston reserve patrolman, was the courtesy officer at an Atlanta apartment complex, according to reports. While working there, he befriended people who prosecutors say were trafficking marijuana.

Prosecutors say Hoskins used his law enforcement position to run names and vehicle tags through an FBI database for the traffickers. In June of last year, Hoskins reportedly learned federal agents were going to search his friends' apartment and shared the information with them.

Hoskins couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
