Teen playing hooky accidentally shot by police | News
DECATUR, Ga. -- Police said Wednesday, that a teen who was shot during a burglary investigation on Tuesday was not a suspect, and had been accidentally shot.
While investigating a burglary in the 2600 block of Streamside Court, DeKalb Police said they followed a teen running from officers on Leisure Springs Circle.
They said a 16-year-old playing hooky from school ran from officers and hid in a shed. When an officer opened the door to the shed, he was startled and unintentionally fired his weapon, striking the teen.
Police said they were unable to talk with the teen until Wednesday, as he had been sedated overnight.
They said the teen will not face any charges in connection with the burglary. Investigators said there were four suspects in connection with the burglary, and that two of them were in custody.
The police officer whose weapon discharged has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation of the incident takes place.
