A powerful storm system will move in from the west later this afternoon and will start bringing snow into the western sections of the state by 2-3pm today. All the details are in the webcast. I will have another full update here and on the blog.
As of 3pm there have been reports of sleet and snow in the far NW sections of the state, but there is an area out on I-20 called the defamation zone that will be moving right towards the metro area and will skirt it just to the north by around 5-7pm. Down below is our forecasted totals map, it has not changed since Tuesday. This defamation zone is the area we will continue to monitor as iot moves into the N Georgia area.
The NAM has this area moving just to the north of Atlanta later this evening which means that we will see some snow in the metro area, but again I don't thing we will see anything that will create any travel problems at all. If there are any accumulations in the metro it will only be a trace on the grassy surfaces. Timing for Atlanta appears to be around 5-7 pm later tonight
Here is our official forecast for totals
Atlanta - Maybe a trace on some grassy surfaces
Out West I-20 near AL border - 1-2 inches
North Metro Counties - Trace on grassy surfaces
NE Georgia mountains - 1-3 inches
Another update at 4pm
This is a forecast that will continue to evolve over the next 12 hours. Keep checking in with 11Alive.com and the blog for all the latest. And of course watch 11Alive throughout the day for all the latest updates.
