New Ways to Save Money on Groceries

ATLANTA -- Saving money on groceries can be as simple as buying what is in season and on special every week.

But there are alternatives to the big chain grocery stores where you can find bargains every day.

Aldi has just opened its new location in Roswell. The German based chain keeps prices low by stocking only one or two brands of most grocery items and requiring a deposit on your shopping cart.  Shoppers are also required to bag their groceries themselves.

Tiny international markets in places like Buford Highway also have bargains on some items.   I recently found limes, avocados, cilantro and tortillas for much less than traditional grocery store price in a small market that caters to spanish speaking residents.    But also keep in mind some traditionally American foods are more expensive in these stores. Some also don't take credit cards.

International farmer's markets are also full of bargains. Both the Dekalb and Buford Highway Farmer's Markets have competitive prices on produce, international foods and seafood. Condiments and spices are also bargains.
