Homeless Residents Will Benefit from Generosity of Three Atlanta Organizations During the Holiday Season

On Tuesday, December 20th three Atlanta-based organizations will join forces to make it a joyous Christmas for homeless residents of English Avenue and Vine City.

From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. 40 Girls and Some Shoes (www.40girlsandsomeshoes.org) will use its office at 19 Joseph E. Lowery Blvd. as a distribution site for over 400 pairs of shoes and socks donated by members of Salem Missionary Baptist Church of Lilburn.  Flat Out of Heels LLC, creator of stylish, compact, rollable ballet flats for women with aching fee, will donate $10.00 from every pair of shoes sold all day on www.FlatoutofHeels.com to 40 Girls and Some Shoes.

Flat Outs come tightly rolled in a disposable box with a shoe bag included.

DECATURDeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Burrell Ellis announces that DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will contribute to the Soles4Souls charity by collecting shoes until Feb. 29, 2012.

Soles4Souls is a shoe charity organization that collects shoes from the warehouses of footwear companies and the closets of individuals. Once shoes are gathered, they are distributed to people in need, regardless of race, religion, class, or any other criteria. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has delivered more than 16 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes across the world.

All types and sizes of shoes in good condition will be accepted. To donate to this worthy cause, citizens are asked to tie each pair of shoes together.

ATLANTA – It’s the most wonderful time of the year for Mega Millions to go on a mega roll. Tuesday’s jackpot has jumped to an estimated $116 million after no one matched all the winning numbers Friday.

Two Georgia Lottery players each won $10,000 in Friday’s drawing. The lucky tickets were purchased at QuikTrip on Wesley Chapel Road in Decatur and Money Back on Highway 18 in West Point.

The Mega Millions jackpot has been growing since Nov. 4 and has rolled 11 times.

Mega Millions offers two jackpot payment options: approximately $4.4 million a year for 26 years with the annuity option; or a single payment worth approximately $85 million with the cash option.

Mega Millions tickets are $1 per play. Players can multiply prizes with the Megaplier option for an additional $1 per play.
