The Amen Corner at HF Sheppherd Auditorium

From October 22 – October 24, the students of BaSix Academy are presenting a project, entitled ‘The Amen Corner’, directed and rearranged under the direction of BaSix President Dr. David K. Price and the production company, DK Productions Theatre Company. Together, they will give audiences a taste of Dr. Price’s non-traditional BaSix Academy model of education.

Their rendition” of Gospel stage play The Amen Corner by celebrated African-American playwright James Baldwin, is about faith and family, and will be performed for four shows at the HF Sheppherd Auditorium at Greater Travelers Rest Baptist Church (4650 Flat Shoals Parkway, Decatur).  

“The Amen Corner” will serve as a vessel to address the role of the church and religion in the African-American family.

The play will be performed at 7:00 p.m., nightly and 2:00 p.m. on Oct 23. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 on-site.

Lee Walton's Presents: Momentary Performances

Check out Momentary Performances, a concept created by popular Atlanta experiementalist, Lee Walton.

Momentary Performances is a series of 8 different choreographed performances that will take place in 8 different locations in Atlanta. Over the course of a month, each performance will occur 4 times. 

This project stems from Walton’s interest in the subtle, everyday actions of public life.  Through the simple of use of vinyl text installed in public space, everyday actions are formalized and made able to taking on a new life.  Through this amplification, intimate everyday occurrences become celebrated events and blur the line between real-life and theater.

Decatur Market & Gallery hosts Mystic Methods and Moods

On Saturday, October 9th from 5-10 p.m., the Decatur Market & Gallery (153 Ponce de Leon Pl., Decatur) will host a group artist opening reception called "Mystic Methods and Moods: Holiday Spirit" for 25 invited artists to share their vision of "spirit" in their chosen medium. 

One artist will receive an award for the most compelling work.

The Decatur Market Gallery will offer light refreshments and there will be live music provided by The Flying Mystics. Tarot readings will also be offered by House of Oracle. And guests are being asked to wear themed costumes.

Famous as much for its former employees — Peter Buck of R.E.M. and Danger Mouse have both manned the counters of the Athens shop — Wuxtry is a Georgia stalwart that continues to win new fans that don’t even care about its history. (Well, maybe a little.)

NBCAHOF Hall of Fame Weekend

The National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Foundation will celebrate its 25th Anniversary during their Annual Hall of Fame Weekend; beginning Thursday, September 23rd and ending Sunday, September 26th.

The Hall of Fame Foundation is a “partner to help ensure the stability, strength and excellence of our nation’s Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and assembles alumni, students, administrators, corporate leaders, celebrities and dignitaries for a weekend of events that include workshops and panel discussions surrounding trends and issues that impact HBCUs and/or predominately Black colleges and universities, as well as the community at large”.

The 25th Annual Hall of Fame Weekend celebration features numerous events for the entire family, including its signature Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Friday, September 24, 2010 at The Hyatt Regency Atlanta, hosted by Mrs. April Woodard of Inside Edition.
