DeKalb Educators Participate in Discovery Education Science Institute

From October 4-7, DeKalb County School District educators Beth Kyle, an early childhood coordinator, and Christopher Robinson, a K-12 science coordinator, attended the exclusive Discovery Education Science Institute at Discovery Communications’ global headquarters in Silver Spring, Md.

During the Discovery Education Science Institute, Kyle and Robinson learned from experts how to leverage the latest technological tools and resources to engage today’s 21st Century tech-savvy students in immersive, inquiry-based science instruction. Participants also learned creative ways to evaluate students’ understanding of science content through the use of new technologies and digital storytelling. Attendees also worked on the development of model lessons featuring dynamic digital content that can be seamlessly integrated into existing science curricula.

In addition, attendees heard from national experts in Science education, including Dr. Cindy Moss, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ Director of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Education.  During her presentation, Moss outlined successful strategies and techniques Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools implemented that doubled district students’ science scores on end of course exams.
