New jury will weigh case against Burrell Ellis

DECATUR, GA (WXIA) -- The CEO of DeKalb County, Burrell Ellis is accused of extorting campaign contributions from companies that do business in the county. A judge declared a mistrial in 2014, which brings us to this year's retrial.

The faces remain the same in court. Ellis' defense team has been scaled down, but his wife still sat behind him, just as she did every day in the first trial.

What needs to change to avoid another hung jury are the tactics, and perhaps the jury. That's what attorneys focused on in Monday's session.

Decatur Memorial Day celebration

DECATUR, GA (WXIA) -- On a Memorial Day set beneath a grey sky, a small but determined crowd stood connected to the names read aloud -- even the ones they've never known.

"They mean something," explained Velma Robinson.

Robinson served two tours of duty in the Middle East.

"I lost some people on both tours. I remember being on the flight line in Afghanistan when they brought the bodies back," she SAID.

One of them was her leader, Captain Charles Rigby.

Robinson gathered to remember, just like the others present.

They also gathered to volunteer.

Raindrops fell while those present marched across Decatur Cemetery, to honor the graves of 50 soldiers laid to rest there -- and to show them the respect Robinson hope Rigby is being shown in his hometown on this Memorial Day.
