DeKalb chips in millions for pro soccer practice facility

DECATUR, GA -- DeKalb County will help billionaire Arthur Blank build a new practice facility and headquarters for his new professional soccer team. The deal includes more than 10 million taxpayer dollars. Backers of the deal expect this new soccer practice facility will give a much needed boost to a part of DeKalb County that sorely needs one.

DeKalb looks to avoid repeat of water woes


Man shot to death outside DeKalb gas station

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- A 20-year-old man died after being shot outside a DeKalb County gas station Thursday morning.

The shooting happened at around 7 a.m. at the Valero in the 2500 block of Candler Road, just north of Interstate 20.

First responders found the victim inside a pickup truck. He was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The man's name was not released.

The shooting investigation is ongoing.

DeKalb County cancels contract with pool operator

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- The Browns Mill Family Aquatic Center temporarily shut its doors after DeKalb County ended its contract with the company responsible for staffing lifeguards at the pool.

For weeks, 11Alive has been investigating USA Pools after a teen nearly drowned at the Browns Mill Pool.

The pool is closed while DeKalb County looks for lifeguards to finish out the summer.

On Tuesday, DeKalb County commissioners heard first-hand that up to 16 Browns Mill Pool lifeguards didn't show proof of certification after the June near drowning incident. CEO Lee May says that's a blatant violation of its contract.

DeKalb Co. residents should continue to boil water

DECATUR, Ga --The boil water advisory continues in DeKalb County.

County officials are awaiting water test results to make sure it's safe for drinking. A spokesman says that could happen at any time.

On Thursday, a heavy equipment machine hit a hydrant in the Tucker area which cause a break in a 48-inch transmission line.

Over the past few days it's meant -- at times -- no water, low water or boiled water.

In the meantime, residents and business, especially restaurant owners, are still dealing with the effects of the water woes.

Arrest made in gas station clerk shooting death

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. – Police say they've made an arrest in the shooting death of a gas station clerk.

DeKalb County Police say 24-year-old Rickey Westbrook was arrested in the murder of 54-year-old Harry Wells.

Wells was working at the Exxon store on Memorial Drive when he was killed Monday.

Police believe a dispute between the two led to the shooting.

Wells was a father of five. He was also a pastor.

Apartment complex residents upset over missing mail

DECATUR, Ga. -- Residents in a Decatur apartment complex say they are fed up with not getting their mail. They say it's either stolen or isn't delivered at all.

Rosa Jones says getting mail has been problematic since she moved into the Robins Landing Apartments.

Jones said her box was broken into twice in four months. She says other issues include missing bills and lost paychecks.


11Alive found one mail cubby wide open with mail still inside.

After being vandalized multiple times, the U.S. Postal Service stopped delivering. Residents were notified with by letter.
